Poll: what is hanging above our kitchen table?

Photo:

a reed mobile or himmeli

(The light in the middle is a reflection in the window; this thing doesn't actually glow.)

[personal profile] therem_harth helped me make it, and we are NAMING him, and his name is D'Artagnan. We haven't made one of these since we were kids. It's called "puzuris" in Latvian and apparently most widely known in English by its Finnish name "himmeli". Most of the poll answer options are what these things are called in various languages of Eastern and Northern Europe. :) I had no idea how widespread these were. :) It spins gently every time air moves around the room, and I adore it.

Of course, I replied it's none of the above, as I've always known it's a himmeli (instead) :) And I'd never realised (before now looking up the word in Wiktionary) that the word comes from Swedish himmel – sky or heaven. Happy holiday season to you! Oh, your himmeli and the picture are beautiful!
